When I was a kid, I never thought that La Union would be one of the most sought-after tourist destination of the north. Here are some of the things you can do and visit in the province:
1. Surfing and other water activities - The surfing capital of the north is located in the Municipality of San Juan, La Union. It's the next town after San Fernando City. The surfing resorts are very accessible because they are located along the Highway and Bus routes. Don't go here during the summer season because the ocean is very serene, making it impossible to surf. Instead, go here during the months of October to February when waves, generated by the northeast monsoon, are very conducive for surfing beginners.
2. Tour / Overnight Stay at the Santorini of the Philippines - There's no need to go to Greece to experience the extravagance of Santorini. We already have it, here, in La Union. Located in the City of San Fernando, Thunderbird Resort is a perfect place to see and feel the beauty of Santorini. You can either have a day tour or stay overnight.
3. Grape picking - Another activity that is gaining popularity among travelers in La Union is grape picking. This is quite interesting because for all we know, grapes can only grow in cold places. I don't know if these grapes were genetically modified to suit the Philippine climate or what have you.

4. Historical Places - If you love Philippine history and heritage, La Union have so many to boast around. We have the San Juan Bautista Church, the San Fernando Cathedral, the Our Lady of Charity Church in Agoo, and Ma-Cho Temple in San Fernando City, among others.
5. Tangadan Falls and Nature Trekking - One of the hidden wonders of La Union is Tangadan Falls. It is located in the town of San Gabriel, few kilometers away from San Fernando City. To reach the beautiful falls, you will need to traverse hills and rivers by riding a single motorcycle and by walking. On the way to the falls, you can already enjoy nature's beautiful work of art.
